Specialty fashion retailer reclaims valuable selling space and increases sales by 23% with real-time sales and customer data via mobile POS system, Springboard Retail

Boston – October 21, 2015in the pink, the nation’s largest chain of Lilly Pulitzer® Signature Stores, was named one of Apparel Magazine’s 2015 Top Innovators amongst a prestigious group of apparel and fashion retailers including L.L. Bean, Brooks Brothers, and Rebecca Minkoff. in the pink received a "top innovator" award for their roll-out of mobile POS and concurrent reconfiguration of stores by removing sales counters—a seemingly unheard of move during the peak selling season.

in the pink had confidence in their innovative plan based a month long pilot in their store on Newbury Street in Boston. They relied on the power and flexibility of their POS system, Springboard Retail, and were able to monitor results after the reconfiguration in real time. On Newbury Street, in the pink reclaimed nearly 5% of the store’s floor space and gained 6.5 linear feet of wall space by removing the sales counters. Using iPad point of sale devices and customer insight dashboards, sales reps were able to to engage customers on the sales floor, understand purchase preferences and make informed product recommendations. As a result, customer transactions increased 22% and net sales increased by 23%.



“Not only did we instantly see an increase in sales and transactions, we also saw that we improved the store environment and customer experience. There was a much more open feel, there were less lines, and we created more intimate sales associate interactions with our customers. The success of the pilot on Newbury Street made it obvious we needed an immediate rollout to other key stores,” noted Gordon Russell, CEO of in the pink. Using Springboard Retail, in the pink was able to see sales and comps and a host of other KPIs in real time across all 10 locations from any web enabled device. “We ripped out the sales counters and saw performance improve immediately” says Russell.
